How to Use The Pet Owner Merge Tool

Use Cases/Overview:

If there are any duplicate Pet Owner Accounts, we have the option to merge the accounts together to avoid any confusion or multiple renewal communications being sent out a Pet Owner with a duplicate account.

How-To:

1. On the main page, scroll down to the “Data Management / Administration” Section.

2. Click Pet Owner Merge 

3. There are 2 mandatory text boxes : Pet Owner Record to Merge and Delete and Pet Owner Record to Retain.

4. For Pet Owner Record to Merge and Delete: Enter the Pet Owner Account ID which needs to be deleted and merge its data into the Account that will be retained.

  • To find the Pet Owner ID, go to the Pet Owner Record Search tool to navigate to the pet owner's profile you are looking for.

  • From there, you’ll click on the pet owner’s name to access their DocuPet profile.

  • The Pet Owner ID is to the right of the Pet Owner’s name in brackets. 

5. For Pet Owner Record to Retain: Enter the Pet Owner Account ID that you would like to retain. This will be the account that the 'deleted' Pet Owner's info will be merged into.

6. The checkbox under the “How It Impacts Pets” section is automatically selected in order to allow the system to also merge any pets with the same name under both accounts. 

7. Once done, Click ‘Continue’ Button.

8. Review the Merge Statement populated and ensure it is correct. Click the checkbox below the statement to confirm the Merge action, then click 'Merge'.

9. The following screen will display a success message with the option to “View the Updated Record”

10. Click “View the Updated Record” to be redirected to the Retained PO account with all the details of the deleted account merged into it.

11. You can continue by clicking “Merge More Pet Owners” or click “I’m Finished” to finish the merge.


Important Considerations:

  • All pet owner contact details will reflect the “Retained” accounts information, unless a field was blank in which case the “For Deletion” contact details will be transferred. 
  • All order history from both the “For Deletion” and “Retained” accounts will reflect on the “Retained” account.
  • All duplicate and additional pets from the “For Deletion” account will be automatically transferred to the “Retained” account. This will include all current and historical license details as well as proof documentation if applicable. 
  • If a pet contains an exact name match, the records will automatically combine on the “Retained” account.
  • Both the accounts should be in the same city otherwise, will get an error message “The cities connected to the ID's do not match.

  • Once a merge is completed, it cannot be undone.
