The fastest and most straight forward way to process returned mail is with a DocuPet Scanner.
If your organization would like to purchase a scanner, please contact your Relationship Manager for associated costs.
On the main page, go to “Process Return Mail”
Scan the barcode that is shown in the envelope window with the DocuPet Scanner and it will auto-populate onto the screen.
-
- If it doesn’t populate, check to see if you have any other tabs open. If you do, the barcode might have gone elsewhere.
- If you close your tabs and it still doesn’t populate, you can type in the middle set of numbers and click “Enter”. Example: 12345678 1234567 12
When it’s successful, the window will turn green and say “Item Status Updated Successfully”
If there have been multiple letters sent to this Pet Owner, the window will turn yellow and you’ll need to specify whether this piece of mail was a renewal communication or a tag order.
When the Pet Owner or an admin updates the address field in the Pet Owner's profile, the “Returned Mail” flag will be removed automatically and mailed communications will resume.
*You may also flag returned mail manually in the DocuPet system. The process to manually flag return mail can be found here: We Received Return Mail, What Should I Do?
