Overview:
Extendable licenses are an option available to Organizations when setting up your licensing program with DocuPet. This feature is specific to communities where licensing rules specify that a Pet license cannot be valid at any time the Pet’s rabies vaccination is not valid.
Extendable licenses are designed to allow Pet Owners access to the full license term purchased, even when their Pet's rabies vaccine expires during the timeframe of the purchased license term, by uploading the updated proof documentation to their Pet's profile prior to the rabies expiration date. These extendable licenses will be highlighted in pink on the Pet’s DocuPet profile.
Example:
A Pet with a shortened license term due to its rabies expiration date gets a new rabies vaccination a few days before its current rabies vaccination expires. In this case, a Pet Owner submits the updated documentation to their Pet's account and once it is approved, the license will be extended to the full license term purchased or to the newly provided rabies expiration date, whichever comes first.
License Purchase: September 18, 2025 (1 year license term)
Current Rabies Expiration Date: May 5, 2026
Pet receives Rabies vaccine booster: May 1, 2026 (new expiration date - May 1, 2029)
New Rabies Proof Documentation Uploaded: May 2, 2026
Proof Approved and License Expiration Date Updated: May 3, 2026
License Now Expires: September 19, 2026 (full 1 year from purchase date)
Important Considerations:
The DocuPet system is set up to extend the license automatically when the rabies proof is uploaded and approved. However, there are situations when this can be done manually due to an administrator wishing to honour the license purchased when the updated rabies certificate is provided AFTER the current expiration date.
