Overview
Units, apartments, and suite numbers can be added to an existing authoritative address record to ensure pet owners living in multi-unit properties can be properly matched and validated for licensing. You can add a unit at any time by editing an existing authoritative address record or while creating a new authoritative address.
Let's Begin!
Step 1: Open the Authoritative Address Tool
From the Administrator Dashboard:
1. Scroll down to Data Management / Administration.
2. Select Authoritative Address.
Step 2: Search for the Address
Search for the authoritative address where you need to add a unit.
Search Tip: Less is more! Use a smaller portion of the address to improve search results.
For example, instead of searching "670 Adobe Drive", try searching "670 Adobe" or "Adobe".
Once you've entered the address details, click on "Search" to view all address results.
Step 3: Add the Unit Number
Once you locate the correct address:
1. Click on view/edit next to the address you'd like to update.
2. Scroll to the Apartments / Suites / Units At This Address section.
3. Enter the unit number in the search field.
4. Select the correct unit from the available results.
5. Click on Add.
Important Notes
Unit numbers should be entered without symbols or special characters.
Example:
✅ 101
❌ #101
❌ Apt. 101If the unit does not already exist in the available list, you may need to add or update the authoritative address record first.
Once added, the unit will immediately be associated with the authoritative address and can be used during pet owner address validation.
Best Practices
Verify you are adding the unit to the correct authoritative address before saving.
Use consistent formatting when adding units to help maintain clean address records.
Review existing units before adding a new one to avoid duplicate records.
